The Broke Client vs. The BrokEN Client

Updated: Feb 11, 2020

There are moments when you witness a “quotable” statement at the moment it is being said. I experienced this one day while randomly scrolling through one of my favorite Facebook Groups, Digital Nomad Mum. The owner Chanel Morales simply stated:

“STOP SELLING CHEAP SHIT TO BROKE PEOPLE!”

Hello Aha Moment! I knew exactly what she was talking about. She said exactly what I needed to hear, not only for myself but for my clients as well. Although at first glance, it’s sort of comical, however when you go deeper there is a HUGE root of TRUTH.

FACTS:

1. Broke & Broken are NOT the same: Believe it or not, broke is not a financial issue, it is directly connected to a state of mind. BrokEN means there has been enough pain to break open the deepest part of humanity: The Spirit. The difference between Broke and Broken, is that broken people have an open heart, are ready and willing to change, and desire something new. However broke people are stuck in a mindset, can’t get out of their way, tend to be judgmental and adore being comfortable.

2. Broke People Will Break You: RUN! Do not walk, do not skip, do not even jog- RUN as far as you can from broke people because the outcome of dwelling with them too long is they will break you! Attitudes might be catchy, but a broke mindset is a death sentence. Broke people exhaust you mentally and emotionally, which always leads to some type of physical illness. Broken people pour into you, share their experiences, encourage you, see your potential, and push you out of your comfort zone. Broken people guide you towards your breakthrough because they have accomplished it too and want you to experience the wonders on the other side.

3. Broke People Know the Price of Everything, but the Value of Nothing: Broke people spend money on “stuff,” post about it, and then ask you for a discount. Broken people spend money on experiences to create memories that last a lifetime. Broke people will spend their most precious resource (time) to let you know how they “feel” about your prices. When the smarter, more useful option is to go research someone cheaper and be happy. Broken people spend their time asking questions about the benefits and time commitment because they see it as an investment.

Being an entrepreneur puts you in a unique position: YOU GET TO CHOOSE! You get to choose your services and set your prices. You get to choose who you work with and who you can say “Girl Bye” to. You get to choose to set your hours according to your values. But to manifest your greatness and abundance, you have to BE your BEST self and stop letting “broke” people determine how you set your price points! Here’s the thing about the broke mindset: you will NEVER make them happy and they will never be fully committed. Broke people are looking for cheap, not to be confused with frugal (which is being responsible financially). If you have invested educationally, provide quality service, and have the experience, then you are an expert so step into your worth!

In the words of the great, Oprah Winfrey: “Here’s What I Know for Sure:” When you change your prices, YOU WILL LOSE CLIENTS (yikes!). But here’s why…subconsciously you are honestly tired of working with them, you are making room for the new who will appreciate you, and you will renew your passion because you are no longer in danger of becoming BROKE too.!

If you are stuck in a “price-rut,” let’s chat about what’s missing, I’d love to help!
