What you don't feed, will eventually die. - Bishop T.D. Jakes
In other words, there are things in your life you need to starve to kill. With that, the thing I believe in killing more than anything is the EGO. All the missing courses in school are financial literacy, REAL history, developing your natural gifts, and how to discern the difference between your spirit and your EGO. And honestly, if we could start with the ego, the rest of the imperative subjects would follow. But that's not today's goal. Today's goal is to share with you WHY it is dangerous to feed your EGO.
I rarely have to fire clients, but when I do it's always rooted in their inability to kill their EGO. In other words, they get in their way and eventually get on my last nerve. Even worse, the people I have fired, have been the most gifted, talented, and innovative people. Yet, sadly most of those characteristics rarely see the light because their ego is too busy covering up their greatness in the costume of judgment, excuses, pride, meanness, foolishness, and the list goes on and on. The EGO is a master at overshadowing your authenticity while killing your opportunities. YIKES!
Why should you care or even consider killing your EGO as an entrepreneur? Because if you don't, your EGO is going to kill your business. Read that sentence again. And here's a list of the reasons why:
1. Murder of JOY:
The ego is the original thief. You can waste time blaming it on the devil if you want to, but baby girl, I promise, t's YOU. Here's what I know for sure: a loss of joy leads to a loss of relationships because nobody likes hanging out with pessimistic Patty. And a loss of relationships always equals a loss of revenue.
2. Unteachable:
The ego makes you overly sensitive, which causes you to feel attacked when someone offers critical feedback. The ego sees feedback as an attack; instead of understanding and recognizing it as clarity and an opportunity for growth.
3. Insecurities On Display:
The ego puts your insecurities on display for those who can see beyond the surface. The ego thinks that by displaying a "hard" demeanor, it is protecting itself. Instead, it shows the world your weaknesses and fears because below the surface of anger is always sadness.
4. Blessing Blocker:
The ego is the official mascot of cock blocking. Before EVERY blessing will be the test of humility. If you are not seeing the blessings you are praying for, it might be time to check your ego at the door.
5. Dumb AF:
The ego makes you dumb AF. Notice I didn't say foolish. I said Dumb AF because that's what the ego does. She makes up all these stories (that usually never happen) based on her fears of not being accepted, and then she makes moves from a place of pity instead of power. Kill that chick, and you can stand in your genius.
6. Always Playing Defense:
The worst thing about the ego, she always has her guards up. She is always waiting on the other shoe to drop. She is always waiting on everything to fall apart. And because of this, she never gets to play offense, only defense. That means the ego is never in a position to win because she never touches the ball.
Here's the million-dollar question: How do I know if it's my ego or my spirit. Here's the million-dollar answer. The ego is a rowdy and ratchet chick. She's loud because she's afraid of not being heard. She speaks the language of scarcity because she's terrified of being disappointed. She's confused because she's doesn't trust herself.
Ohhhh…but the spirit. This lady speaks confidently, boldly, and rarely raises her voice because she KNOWS. She is clear on WHO she is, WHAT is best for her, and knows that nothing great and of God is ever rushed.
